Pros and cons of social media
Recently I was likely to go to a marriage function of my close friend’s sister. There I was likely to meet a lot of my friends and relatives with whom I enjoyed my school and college days. We altogether used to blast every day with notorious activities and funny plays. So I was so excited to meet them again. But I have forgotten, that was the era of experiencing things together practically but this is the era of social media.
Then I realized how I am alone in between crowd, in between my cronies and how I am together while I was alone.
Social media can definitely be the best tool of communication, but it also has a much negative and harmful effect on people and society; especially on our society and young generations.
Social Media
The journey of social media starts with Six degrees it started in 1997 when Internet word in India is its initial phase. Then Friendster, Hi5, Orkut, Myspace, Snap-chat, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram and many more. Today there is a variety of social media network site and channels, many of them can be linked with each other to cross post. There are many clear benefits of social media such as being able to connect with long distance, real-time information sharing, creating virtual relationships; Promotion of the business is easy through unpaid and paid
But as every coin has two sides Social media also have many negative aspects such as issues regarding privacy, fake bad rating destroying business credibility, the trap of fake news’s and rumours are getting dangerous and killing, many physical and mental deficiencies arousing in the young generation, cyberbullying and abusing and off-course time to waste.
Privacy Issues and Health issues of using social media excessively
Now a day’s privacy is a major concern while using social media. Lots of social media channel required major information of users like Date of birth, address, contact no, picture etc. this data is used for promotional activities and for cyber crimes too. Some hackers use your uploaded pics on objectionable sites which can harm their character and careers.
Instagram is one of the worst channels for young generations of mental health. Over 90% of young people age between 16 to 24 uses the Internet just for social media channels. they are just wasting their precious time in posting images, tagging, commenting and chatting with others although at the same time they can make their career, grow their personality with the use of it.
Fake news rumours spreading and cyber-bullying
Social media is being used for spreading fake news and rumours in society wastefully and widely. Every day there is new fake news in social media which are harming the unity of society and defaming targeted people because of these fake news's lots of cases of mob lynching and riots took places recently in the country in which some family lost their beloved.
Cyber-bullying is affecting badly the online reputations of everyone involved – not just the person being bullied, but those doing the bullying or participating in it.
Conclusion: Pros and cons of social media
Social media and networking are good or bad: Debate will always keep on, but it’s like just about everything else. As long as you – and your children – use social media sites in limit and for right things, nothing is to be afraid of.
This is the fact that many children think that they would be happier if social media didn’t exist, it is not necessarily an indictment of social networking sites themselves but rather the way in which we use them.
The darker and negative sides of social networking, such as bullying, scamming and the spread of misinformation or fake news's, wasting time were happening offline way before they were ported to the internet.
So if you – or your children – are worried about using social media and networking sites, don’t Just keep your software updated, double check information before you believe it and keep your privacy settings updated. And if social media and networking are getting you low, take some break. After all, if you’re using it correctly, it enhances your life instead of taking over it.
